Modern Warfare 3 Launch Hindered by Call of Duty Elite Fail
The wait is over, the latest chapter of Activision’s Call of Duty franchise is now official and gamers can finally get ready for some hot Modern Warfare 3 action on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and PC. But, unfortunately for you, the launch of Modern Warfare 3 is not flawless.

In fact, it would appear that there are already some problems with Activision’s Call of Duty Elite servers that have to face some serious traffic from MW3 buyers.
Call of Duty Elite is “the new revolutionary new social gaming network,” that was “conceived expressly to help Call of Duty’s 30 million devoted fans Play Together Better” says the official MW3 press release. Then the press release goes even further to thoroughly describe Call of Duty Elite:
Call of Duty Elite , from developer Beachhead Studio, is a comprehensive social gaming network and offers a deep and innovative free service for all registered Call of Duty players to Connect, Compete, and Improve. Call of Duty Elite provides “always-on,” universal communication between the platform and the game. Players can access Call of Duty Elite via mobile, web, or console—to connect with friends, plan matches with their Clan or social Group, configure load-outs, access comprehensive stats and interactive heat maps, and much more. Since Call of Duty Elite was developed alongside Modern Warfare 3, many of the features offer seamless interaction between the service and players’ in-game experience, including the ability to customize loadouts and sync them to the game, customize in-game Clans, upload HD videos, and find new friends from social Groups in-game. Call of Duty Elite’s premium tier adds the Modern Warfare 3 DLC delivered monthly throughout the 9 month DLC season, a constantly updated Program Guide of daily competitions for virtual and real-world prizes, exclusive clan leveling and competitions, access to the hotly anticipated Call of Duty Elite TV and more. Annual membership is available for $49.99, less than $5 per month. Many features of Call of Duty Elite are also backwards compatible with Call of Duty: Black Ops , and will also support future enabled versions of Call of Duty with one integrated platform.
In other words Activision will charge you a monthly subscription fee for an online pass that is supposed to get you access to some stellar features. But what happens when too many players want it? Besides Activision making a bucketload of cash, the servers behind the Elite services get hit by a surge in traffic that will inevitably bring them down.
A tweet from the company earlier today read:
“Beachhead & operations teams working around clock to increase Elite reg capacity asap. Pls check http://www.callofduty.com/elite/status for updates from devs.”
As you can see, whether it’s Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, or Batman Arkham City, there are plenty of problems out there that have a negative impact on these best-selling titles. Sure, so far the MW3 problems do not seem to be that serious, but the game has just started selling. Anyone still having problems with the Elite service?

Yeah, I’m still having problems with the “Elite”service. It sucks. I paid extra to get it & these morons can’t even give ANY customer support. I can’t accsess my account because I can’t verify my email because they have not sent a verification e mail to me. Tried to call customer support, recieved no answers to my questions, and was never able to speak with a live person. Was disconnected every time, and recieved no helpful information.
Can’t accsess the app on my console, repeatadley tells me “error” connecting to network.
Tried to chat with customer support, a 2 hour wait, and the timer never counted down.
Tried to e mail customer support but had to create an account. And get a verification e mail. Way to go. You promised something in a certain date, charged money for it, touted it as all spectacular, and turns out its just garbage and lies. I want my money back. And the 4 hours I spent trying to get some answers from your lame customer service.
this game is amazing the elite service sucks, i was able to briefly access aspects of the elite section b4 the rest of America got the game and got on.
it is pretty cool, if they every get it going again!
Will be interested to see if they get it up and running prior to the 13th. After that, only Hardened Edition purchasers can get founders status. If they were working around the clock, you’d think we’d get tweets and updates round the clock. So do you think, that eventually, in years to come, they’ll charge for elite and not have the dlc be free with it? I wonder.
Call me old fashioned but i’d love to just purchase a video game and play the damn thing without all this elite online season dlc download super pre order razzmatazz!!
I’m still having the exact same problem as Timothy, starting to do my head in now!!!
