Asus Transformer Prime Launch Date Gets Pushed Back To December
Well, a bit of a good news / bad news sort of point for you today, folks–while many were no doubt eagerly awaiting the launch of the Asus Transformer Prime, the followup to their surprisingly successful Eee Pad Transformer, the wait just got a little longer. It’s been pushed back to December, specifically, but the reason behind the push, now, that’s going to put a little extra spark in your day.

The reason the Asus Transformer Prime has taken the delay, according to reports, has nothing to do with shipping foulups or any other such bad news, but rather, the system has been delayed so as to let it launch with Ice Cream Sandwich, the newest version of the Android operating system. The reports further suggest that Google will be stepping in to help Asus develop the tablet for Ice Cream Sandwich in a bid to keep it from jumping ship for Windows 8.
Considering that Asus had already had some plan to start putting up Windows 8 tablets, at last report, it makes more than a little sense for Google to step in and put some extra firepower behind tablets (especially tablets that have proven popular like Asus’ lineup), where previously, they’d been less than helpful to the Taiwanese brands. This does follow on the heels of earlier word that says Honeycomb tablets haven’t been selling anywhere near as well as the iPad has, so getting Ice Cream Sandwich to the tablets may be about the only thing that keeps Android in the hunt.
Naturally the unexpected delay will disappoint many, but the promise of an Ice Cream Sandwich treat in the very near future is likely one that will make up for that disappointment very nicely. But what do you guys think here? Are you willing to stomach a bit of a delay for a frosty treat from Android? Or do you want that sweet new Transformer in hand the sooner the better? No matter what you think, we want to hear from you, so head on down to the comments section below and let’s talk Transformer!

No I’m not ok with the delay. Release the product and upgrade. Not that big a deal to do an upgrade. Much more inconvenient on a phone where you can’t make calls than a tablet. Any delay will most likely cause me to move on to the iPad rather than wait.
Is the Asus ‘reveal’ event still going to happen 9th November?
BOOOOOO I want my transformer NOW!!!
Frank, I honestly didn’t expect to see anyone that sensitive to delay. Thanks for showing me something new! But take heart–the delay seems minor, two weeks to a month tops, the kind of thing that could happen in shipping, really.
It’s looking a bit shaky–no official word out, of course–but all things considered I’d lean more toward no.
Like I told Frank, take heart, John Doe–the delay seems short.
Asus is making a habit of under delivering, i.e. the original transformer debacle. Now they are gonna delay the prime, after I’ve been waiting since late august for it. I refuse to support a company that keeps under delivering.
Well if Asus cant produce the Prime tomorrow I’m definately going Galaxy Tab 10.l hunting. This wait nonsense has gone on long enough and ASUS has had issue delivering the produce in the near past so there are zero guarantees they will this time either.
I echo the previous responses. I’ve already been waiting for this tablet for months. The past week has been nearly unbearable. I was ready to hit Best Buy at 9:00 AM cash in hand if they released the tablet tomorrow. Now it may be over a month until it’s released? Please turn your head as I allow myself a few tears.
I may just go ahead and grab the T1. They still plan to update it once ICS is released right?
I must admit that I am disappointed in the delay. Still, I find it really interesting that every comment board I have read all has the same tone of, “if I have to wait any longer I will buy something else”. Now I am new to the tablet world but everything I have read says that this is going to be the best of the best. I for one will wait and buy it when I can get my hands on it.
Screw this im getting an iPad2 >:(
I feel your pain, people. But dont forget how monumental the release of this device is. We are talking cutting edge, quad core technology, in a device thinner and lighter than an IPad 2, and now with the best tablet OS in the world. Look at the pics of this thing from the Asia-D and you’ll realize the weight is worth it. Trust me, I almost gave in and bought a $359 Xoom. ICS and quad core…..come on, we can do it!!
Well. Thing is, the release on this tablet has already been pushed back a few months because of nvidia failing to keep to their rather conservative schedule. Now Google is stepping in and they’re going to push it back again? More likely than not the general population won’t give a damn, but from the standppint if an adnroid power user its rather annoying to see how bad these companies are at keeping to their time frames.
this is extremely disappointing. they should release the damn thing and let people upgrade later, if someone wants to wait for sandwich version so be it, but they should release now as the hardware is ready
