iPad 3 Specs & Features to Include New LED Back-Lighting for High Resolution Displays?
The tablet of the day is the Nook Tablet announced by Barnes & Noble during a special event that ended just a few hours ago. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have any iPad 3 rumor for you. In fact, the closer we get to 2012, the more leaked details about the upcoming device, or devices, will hit the news cycle.

A few days ago we told you that Apple may launch two new tablets next year, an iPad 2 mild refresh – an iPad 2S? – in March or later, followed by a major iPad 3 upgrade in the third quarter of the year. While that’s yet to be confirmed, we now hear from the same source that Apple is considering new LED back-lighting solutions for its “next-generation iPads.”
As always when it comes to DigiTimes’ reports, we’ll take everything with a grain of salt, as it’s way too early to have any of the following details confirmed.
It appears that LED back-light unit vendors are proposing Apple new backlight solutions for the iPad 3. What’s interesting is that the publication mentions resolutions higher than Retina Display for such devices:
With the next-generation iPads expected to adopt LCD panels with resolutions higher than 2048 by 1536, the current single LED light bar designed for the iPad 2 has to be modify in order to maintain or strengthen the brightness of the panels, the sources explained.
Apple has reportedly chosen the dual light bars design of the two proposed alternatives:
One of the new LED light bar designs has proposed to keep the light bar in a single-bar form factor but with two LED chips inside; the other has suggested using dual-LED light bars, the sources indicated.
With plenty of time to go until the iPad 3 hits stores, what is your tablet of choice this Christmas shopping season?
