Motorola Corvair is an Android-Powered TV Controller
Android might soon power our television sets, and Motorola Mobility might be able to reach the market first with a small, cheap device meant for content consumption through the tube. Will Android soon dominate the TV, as well?

Images of the Motorola Mobility Corvair have been leaked, and The Verge shares how the device can help change the TV market. Marketed as a “dedicated controller” for watching television content, the Corvair is meant to be a device that can control streaming video content from cable and other network providers. As the leaks show now, though, the Corvair streams its entire UI wirelessly to a TV, so it’s also likely that the device can use mirroring to display content on a bigger screen, which is somewhat like Apple’s AirPlay for the iPad, or act as a remote control a Motorola cable box.
The Motorola Corvair comes with a 6-inch touchscreen and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. No other specs have been shared, except for the presence of an infrared control for controlling traditional TVs and set-top boxes, RF4CE — a ZigBee-based radio remote control protocol — and a 4,000 mAH battery, which makes for very long standby and usage times in a tablet this size.
Technology companies are starting to take aim at the home entertainment market, with their devices integrating into TV sets. One of the late Apple ex-CEO’s last projects was reported to be an integrated Apple TV, which is rumored to come out in 2012. As such, developers of other platforms are also joining the race to your living room. Will Android and iOS also dominate our living rooms as they have done with our smartphones and tablet computers?
