Firefox 8 Production Release Leaked; Try it Out Now Before Launch
Mozilla is about to launch Firefox 8 this Tuesday, November 8. But if you’re a Firefox fan looking to try the latest version of the popular web browser, you can download the final version a few days earlier than the rest of the world.

Mozilla is being lightning quick with its development of its popular Firefox browser. Just six weeks after Firefox 7 launched, the next big version is already out. Mozilla announced the beta release just last month, and the production release is signed sealed delivered, and almost yours.
Ghacks.net has reported on how users can get their hands on the production release of Firefox through Mozilla’s FTP servers, which security-conscious users and browser enthusiasts might find interesting. Here are a few major additions to the new browser release:
- Better security – The biggest change in Firefox 8 is how it handles third party add-ons. Firefox now asks users whether to install and activate a third-party add on. Previously, add-ons were automatically activated even without user intervention.
- Better add-on control – Add-ons can now be enabled or disabled individually. Firefox will also advise users of possible conflicts and incompatibilities between add-ons.
- Selective tab startup – Users can also configure Firefox to load only the selected tab on startup. All other tabs and windows can be opened once activated by the user, which can help speed up startup significantly, especially if you are fond of opening multiple sites upon startup.
- Twitter search – Twitter search is now embedded in the search bar, for easily searching through tweets.
- HTML5 context menus – Firefox 8 now supports HTML5 context menus, which let developers add custom element-specific items to the browser’s native context menu.
Firefox 8 comes with a host of other improvements for both developers and users. Expect Mozilla to announce and push the update by Tuesday, November 8. You can check out the source link if you want to download it earlier.
