Harmonix Working On 'Multiple New Music Games'
In the world of video games, I’m not sure there’s a developer that’s had a more up-and-down few years than Harmonix. Harmonix hit gold with Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero 2, and then managed to make lightning strike twice with the original Rock Band and its follow-up.

However, Rock Band 3 stalled out in a big way when it released last year, while Dance Central – one of the first games released for Microsoft’s then-budding motion control peripheral Kinect – soared. The Rock Band series has since faded into the shadows, but the Dance Central series continues to sell like hotcakes. Add to all of that the fact that Viacom decided to ditch Harmonix earlier this year, and you’ll understand why I say Harmonix has had an up-and-down few years.
Nevertheless, Harmonix – now an independent developer – is still alive and kicking. The Rock Band series may be in dire need of a re-imagining, but Dance Central is the hottest new craze in rhythm genre. As it turns out, though, Harmonix isn’t satisfied with just stopping at Rock Band and Dance Central. In a new interview with Bloomberg, Harmonix COO Florian Hunziker said that the developer is currently working on multiple new music games, and they aren’t related to Dance Central or Rock Band.
This is definitely an interesting development, and if the past is any indication, whatever Harmonix has planned is probably going to be very impressive. Of course, with Dance Central 2 barely out of the gate and Rock Band currently undergoing a creative overhaul, we probably won’t know what Harmonix has up its sleeve quite some time, but the fact that Harmonix is working on something new should be exciting enough.
