Acer Iconia A200 Gets Unexpected Announcement

Bluetooth SIG Page Drops Word Of The Iconia A200 Tablet From Acer For An As Yet Unknown Release Date

We’ve heard more than a little about the Acer Iconia A100 tablet, though not too much lately–last we’d heard it was about to go up for pre-order back in late July–but as may be surprising to some, Acer’s got plans for a followup version, specifically, the Acer Iconia A200.

The word on this one dropped quite unexpectedly after passing through Bluetooth certification, which in turn yielded the early look at it you see above, as well as word on its geographic availability, which looks like a pretty substantial launch schedule including North and South America, Asia, Australia and Europe.

There isn’t, however, a whole lot of word as yet on just what the specs will be for the Iconia A200 tablet, though early speculation–as well as what we know about the previous version–suggests that it will be at the very least an Android 3.2 (or Honeycomb, if you prefer the sweet name) tablet possibly going all the way up to Ice Cream Sandwich. Also expected is a processor upgrade taking it past the Tegra 2 the Iconia 100 was packing, as well as comparably lower end storage. The tablet you see pictured, meanwhile, is the wi-fi only version, which suggests that there may be a couple different versions with different connectivities.

There’s no word yet on pricing or release dates here, either, though early word suggests it will stick to the $330 mark that the Iconia A100 held. It’s looking like a pretty sweet tablet, though it may not have an easy time of things against the rest of the tablets that are out there. It’s a big market, after all, and with Asus’ quad-core monster the Transformer Prime looking to make a play as well as the upcoming pair of Apple refreshes, well, Acer may get aced out.

But what do you guys think here? Do you like the look of the Acer Iconia A200? Or do you think this new tablet from Acer will get overwhelmed by the variety of competitors out there? The comments section is waiting for you to lodge an opinion, so head on down and tell us what you think!
