Techland Files Trademark For Dead World
Despite a few launch setbacks, Dead Island has become one of 2011′s most loved games. Okay, so maybe critics didn’t like it nearly as much as players did, but thanks to all of those beautifully grotesque trailers, Dead Island has become one of Techland’s best-selling games ever.

At this point, it basically goes without saying that there’s going to be a sequel. After all, you can’t let a cash cow like Dead Island go without a follow-up, and it seems that Techland knows this, because they’ve trademarked the term “Dead World,” perhaps in anticipation of the inevitable sequel.
So, it looks like Dead Island‘s sequel is going to be Dead World. Unfortunately we don’t know for sure, because Techland is keeping their lips sealed, the bastards. Still, even though Techland wants to play this game, it’s painfully obvious that they’re planning Dead World as the sequel to Dead Island, and if the title is any indication, the sequel will be much bigger than the original.
Of course, this is expected, but I think I would have advised Techland to go a little bit smaller in the sequel, and then tackle Dead World in the third game. I mean, after Dead World, where do you have left to go? Dead Space has already been done and Dead Moon just sounds lame, as does Dead Solar System. Even though I question Techland’s decision to name a sequel Dead World, I do have this to say: while a sequel like Dead World promises to be a gigantic zombie slaughter-fest, let’s make sure that those who buy it on day one can actually play it, eh Techland?
What do you think of this news? Is Dead World obviously the sequel to Dead Island, or do you think Techland just registered the trademark to sit on it? Will you be buying Dead Island‘s sequel, or did the launch issues scare you away from Techland’s games? Head down to the comments section to sound off, and keep it tuned right here to TFTS for more information about Dead Island‘s eventual sequel!
