Motorola Officially Announces The Xoom 2 & Xoom 2 Media Edition Tablets

Putting an end to another series of rumors and leaks, this latest bit comes more as a nice confirmation than a surprise. But that being said, Motorola has recently offered up the official details for the Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition tablets.

First and foremost, while the specs have been detailed thoroughly, there are still some missing details such as the pricing and global release plans. At the present time, Motorola has simply stated that both tablets would be available for those in the UK and Ireland beginning in mid-November.

That being said, lets get into the tablets and the features that each will bring. And given most of the specs are the same across both tablets, lets begin first with what they share. Both the Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition will be running Android 3.2 Honeycomb with features to include a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 1.3 megapixel front facing camera and a 5 megapixel read facing camera with digital zoom, auto-focus and LED flash.

Moving past the shared features and into the individual, the Xoom 2 (pictured above) will bring a 10.1 inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass, 3D virtual surround sound and battery life of up to 10 hours when used for web surfing. In addition, the Xoom 2 will measure in at 253.9 x 173.6 x 8.8 mm and weigh in at 599 grams.

The Xoom 2 Media Edition (pictured above) will bring an 8.2 inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass, adaptive virtual surround sound with multiple speakers and “booming” bass along with up to 6 hours of web surfing or more than 3 days worth of audio playback time. As for the size and weight of the Xoom 2 Media Edition, this one will measure in at 139 x 216 x 8.99 mm and weigh in at 386 grams.

And lastly, both the Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition will be Google powered devices which means access to all the Google goodies including the Android Market.
