Modern Warfare 3 Will Make $1.1 Billion In First Six Weeks, Says Pachter

Michael Pachter Predicts That Modern Warfare 3 Will Be The Best-Selling Game Of 2011 With $1.1 Billion In Six Weeks

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter is back to his old tricks, telling us things we already know and getting paid mountains of money to do it. What’s the obvious prediction for today? Modern Warfare 3 is going to make butt loads of money when it releases later this month.

Okay, so I’m not really being fair to Pachter here. Yes, he’s saying things that seem pretty obvious already, but at least he put a fine point on how much he thinks Modern Warfare 3 will make. The magic number here is 1.1 billion dollars, and Pachter thinks that Activision and Infinity Ward’s latest military shooter will make that much in just six weeks.

$1.1 billion is a metric shit ton of money, but we already know that the Call of Duty series is capable of breaking that number, so it’s more a question of “when,” rather than “if.” If Modern Warfare 3 manages to break $1 billion is six weeks like Pachter is predicting, it will break records set by earlier entries in the series.

Pachter also told IndustryGamers that he thinks Call of Duty Elite will take off at launch as well:

We expect the Call of Duty: Elite premium membership plan to be very popular with CoD’s hard core gamers. Elite is being bundled at a $10 discount with the underlying game, which may accelerate as many as 3 – 4 million subscriptions into 2011

It’ll definitely be interesting to see if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be able to outsell Black Ops when it launches next week. There’s no doubt in my mind that Modern Warfare 3 will be the best-selling game of 2011, but whether or not it can meet the bar set by Black Ops in a shorter amount of time is another thing entirely.

What do you think? Is Pachter right in thinking that Modern Warfare 3 will sell more than Black Ops? Do you think it’s on track to be the best-selling game of the year? Take to the comments section below to share your thoughts!
