Commodore USA Announces The C64X Extreme, Comes Powered By A Quad-Core Intel Core i7 Processor

Commodore USA Packs In Some Power, Announces The C64X Extreme With An Intel Core i7 Processor, 2TB Storage & $1499 Price Tag

It has been a little while since we last heard anything in terms of Commodore, however it does not appear as if they are going away anytime soon. In fact, Commodore USA has come forward with news of their latest offering, the C64X Extreme.

And as one may suspect with anything labeled as ‘extreme’ the C64X Extreme will arrive with some serious processing power. In fact, the computer will be packing a 2nd generation Sandy Bridge 2.2Ghz 64-bit Intel core i7-2720QM (Quad Core/Eight Threads) processor that can be run up to 3.3GHz with Intel’s Turbo Boost technology.

But that being said, the extra power comes with a bit extra in terms of price — the C64X Extreme will be $1,499. And for those considering a purchase, Commodore USA noted that the C64x Extreme is “guaranteed” to ship by December 15th if it is ordered before November 25th.

Aside from the Core i7 processor, lets break down the rest of the features. The C64X Extreme will feature a 2TB hard drive, 8GB of RAM, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 5 USB 2.0 ports, 1 e-SATA port, SPDIF, HDMI, DVI and VGA display connections, built-in Ethernet and Wireless n WiFi and a slot loaded R/W DVD drive.

In addition, it was also noted that “the C64x-EX has a high end mechanical keyboard, incorporating genuine Cherry brand “Blue” switches and is built and assembled entirely in the USA.” And lastly, this particular model will come pre-loaded with Linux Mint 11 and will eventually be able to dual-boot with the “retro inspired Commodore OS Vision when released.”

Bottom line here, the folks at Commodore seem to have really stepped up in terms of power. Not to mention, packed in quite a bit of other good features such as the 2TB of internal storage. Of course, the one reminder, those who make the purchase will also need to remember that they will need to either have or be ready to purchase a display.
