Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray Now Available With Telus

Telus Launches The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, Available Today & Priced From $49.99 On A Three-Year Agreement

Telus originally announced the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray smartphone back in early-October and then followed up later in the month with the pricing and release date information. And well, coming just as we had expected to happen — Telus has officially released the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray.

That being said, those who venture forward and make a purchase will have a few options to consider. First, take the least expensive option, which comes with a three-year commitment and having to spend $49.99. Otherwise, there is also the option to pay $279.99 or $329.99 and go with a two-year or one-year agreement respectively. And lastly, the full retail no-term price comes as $379.99.

All said and done, while not everyone will agree, $49.99 sounds like a fairly reasonable price given the specs and version of Android. The Xperia Ray is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and arrives with Telus as another “Skype Capable” handset.

As for the Skype capable business, that means that Telus will make it easy to use Skype. For example, you can make Skype-to-Skype calls using your Telus data plan or Wi-Fi and not have to worry about burning you regular mobile minutes. In addition, you can make “affordable” Skype-to-Mobile (or -Landline) calls. But perhaps the icing here, you can buy Skype credits directly from your phone by surfing to https://skype.telusmobility.com and billing them to your Telus account.

Otherwise, in terms of the Xperia Ray, the handset will bring features to include a 3.3 inch (854 x 480) WVGA touchscreen display, 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM, microSD card slot, 9.4mm thick aluminum frame, VGA quality front facing camera and an 8.1 megapixel HD camera with Exmor R for mobile. With that, the final perk comes in the form of an included 8GB microSD storage card.

All said and done, while maybe not the most exciting handset around, it does seem to come at a nice price.
