Parallels Desktop For Mac Gets An Update

It looks like the latest software update for the Parallels Desktop for Mac app has come available for download. This latest update comes for Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac and brings the version number up to 7.0.15050.

The update is free for those already using version 7, but perhaps a bit more important — the update brings some new features along with some other fixes. Perhaps the most exciting, those running Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac will now be able to download and install the Windows 8 Developer Preview with ease. More specifically, the Parallels Wizard now offers the ability to download the latest preview of Windows 8.

In addition, and for those who prefer running Linux, or simply want to check it out with little commitment — Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac now supports Ubuntu 11.10. Otherwise, as a whole the update is noted as addressing “overall stability and performance issues.” As for the other changes, fixes and improvements — those break down as follows;

• Install OS X Lion using Install Lion.app.
• Improved full screen experience with a new option allowing to scale the virtual machine screen to fit the visible screen area while keeping the resolution.
• Improved support for non-English keyboard layouts.
• Resolves an issue with the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter disconnecting from Mac OS.
• Improved migration of the recent Linux versions from a PC to a virtual machine on your Mac.

And lastly, the change log concluded with the always nice to see — “many other fixes and improvements.” Bottom line, while this is certainly not a required update, it is one that looks like it will be nice to get. Well, nice to get assuming you are either having issues or have been waiting to play with Windows 8 or Ubuntu 11.10.

That all being said, those running Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac can ran the update by launching the app and then (from the Mac Menu bar) navigate to Parallels Desktop -> Check for updates.
