iPhone 4S Battery Issues Confirmed by Apple, iOS 5.0.1 to Fix Them
Remember those iPhone 4S battery issues certain users complained to the point that they got actual Apple engineers calling them to diagnose the problem? It looks like Apple has confirmed the problem and an upcoming fix is on the way.

An Apple spokesperson told The Loop:
A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices. We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.
As for the fix, that’s apparently called iOS 5.0.1, which was released earlier today to developers. In case you have a dev account you can already install it on your compatible iOS devices. Here’s what you can expect from it:
iOS 5.0.1 beta contains improvements and other bug fixes including:
– Fixes bugs affecting battery life
– Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
– Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
– Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation
– Contains security improvementsiOS 5.0.1 beta introduces a new way for developers to specify files that should remain on device, even in low storage situations.
That last note is pretty interesting as it suggests Apple is thinking about reconsidering its new iOS 5 policy that affect the way the device stores certain data on the handset, which may hinder some apps in the process.
What’s also pretty interesting is that second bulletpoint above, Apple is adding multitasking gestures for the original iPad, and we can’t but wonder why the feature wasn’t included in the iOS 5 release in the first place. Sure, developers figured out a way to enable it, via a trick that involved using a jailbreaking tool, but it appears Apple is ready to include it in the next iOS update.
