Gmail App for iPhone, iPad & iPod touch Available in the App Store
Just as we told you yesterday, Google has created a standalone Gmail iOS application for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, and the app is available to download from the App Store right now free of charge.

Gmail is compatible with iOS 4 and iOS 5 devices and the new native client is supposed to offer you an improved email experience on the go.

The application is supposed to offer you speed, efficiency and touch-friendliness according to Google’s description:
- Speed:
- Get alerted to new messages with push notifications and sounds
- Find an email in seconds with search across your entire inbox
- Autocomplete email addresses from your Gmail contacts or select from your device’s address book
- Upload photos with a click using the new attachment button in compose view
- On iPad, navigate your inbox and read your mail simultaneously with split view
- Efficiency:
- Focus on your important messages first with Priority Inbox
- Quickly scan countless emails on the same subject with threaded conversations
- Organize your mail by archiving, labelling, starring, deleting and reporting spam
- Touch:
- Pull down your inbox to rapidly refresh if you’re eager for new mail
- Swipe right to view your labels without ever leaving your inbox
- Swiftly scroll through dozens of emails just by sliding your finger
And here are the features of Gmail as listed in the App Store:
- Receive notification badges for new messages
- Read your mail with threaded conversations
- Organize your mail by archiving, labeling, starring, deleting, and reporting spam
- Keep track of important messages with priority inbox
- Auto-complete contact names as you type
- Send and receive attachments
- Search through all your mail
After redesigning its desktop email app, Google is trying to convince us it’s going to move to the next-level when it comes to Gmail support on mobile devices. But does it really? It will be interesting to see how customers will choose to manage their email on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, using Apple’s email application that comes with Gmail support or using Google’s new native client. What do you say, folks?
