Czech iPhone 4S Carrier Won’t Stand for Apple’s Business Terms, Drops iPhone Deal
While carriers flock around Apple to get an iPhone deal even though Apple usually has the upper hand in its relationship with mobile operators around the world, it looks like one particular carrier decided to stand up and refuse Apple’s “business terms” for the iPhone 4S.
Bloomberg reports that Telefonica Czech Republic AS carrier, which operates the O2 brand, is not going to carry the iPhone 4S. What’s even more strange is that the carrier will go ahead and end sales of other iPhone models, a move we don’t usually see when it comes to Apple’s iPhone. Other Czech carriers such as Vodafone Group and T-Mobile International AG started to sell the iPhone 4S last Friday.
Since the iPhone has continuously grown in popularity over the last few years, most carriers out there are trying to obtain iPhone deals in order to keep their subscribers happy. The best example is Sprint in the USA, which reportedly bet the farm on the iPhone deal with Apple in a move meant to put an end to hemorrhaging customers to rivals that had Apple’s smartphone in stock.
It is not known at this time what caused the disruption between Telefonica Czech Republic AS and Apple and it’ll certainly be interesting whether the mobile operator will change its mind and ink an iPhone 4S deal with Cupertino later down the road.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, a company representative told Dow Jones Newswires:
“We haven’t agreed with Apple on mutually acceptable conditions yet.”
Apparently the two companies are still in talks for a potential deal in the region according to the same spokesman. Another factor for AS dismissing the deal may be the fact that the iPhone’s presence in the region is limited, or “well below Android models and even still Nokia phones.”
Let’s hear it from potential iPhone 4S buyers in Czech Republic, what local carrier would you rather buy the iPhone from?

I live in Czech and I’m signed up at Telefonica O2. Last Christmas I bought an iPhone 4 as a “great deal” for 14.000 CZK (=766$) with 3 year! contract, where is monthly fee 2150 CZK (=117$) and free calls only to O2 networks… Two questions: Does it sounds fair to the customers in CZ ? And do you think that the people in CZ like this carrier? :)
