Asus U24E Laptop May Hit Shelves Next Week
We’ve heard quite a bit of news out of Asus of late, though for the most part, it’s been somewhat limited to tablets and similar mobile devices. But they’ve got a pretty nice line of laptops, too, and not just in the Ultrabook class, either. The Asus U24E is looking at a release as early as next week in Japan, and possibly more countries to come not too far out from that.

The Asus U24E is set to offer up an 11.6 inch LCD display showing at 1366 x 768 resolution, and backed up by an Intel Core i5-2430M processor running at 2.4 GHz, as well as four gigs of DDR3 RAM, a 750 gig hard drive, a DVD Super Multi Drive, a webcam of indeterminate resolution, wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity, an HDMI port, and Windows 7 Home Premium for an operating system.
The current word says that this is set to hit stores in Japan on November 5th, with hopefully a wider release going out from there. The current price, meanwhile, is set to be 59,800 Yen, or roughly $763 US.
The interesting thing is that these specs and that price, assuming they hold true to the launch date in another three days, will actually put it on par to compete with some of their own Ultrabook models, like the Asus Zenbook. The difference, of course, is that you’ll pay slightly more for the Zenbook and you’ll get an ultra-thin aluminum chassis in it as well as a solid state drive. Though whether people will actually pay more for the ultra-thin form factor remains to be seen, and may well put some holes in Intel’s Ultrabook plans. I admit to harboring doubts myself about the Ultrabook lineup when there were plenty of other, slightly larger, laptops available for significantly less.
So what do you guys think here? Like the look of the U24E from Asus? Think they can make a laptop every bit as good as their impressive lineup of tablet products like the Eee Pad Transformer? Either way, we want to hear from you, so head on down to the comments section and tell us what you think about the U24E and the Ultrabook line!
