2012: iPhone 5/6, iPad 3, MacBook Air & iMac to See Major Changes?

Apple Rumored to “Overhaul All Product Lines” Next Year, No Actual Details Revealed

Earlier today a report from Asia suggested that Apple will launch two iPad models next year, an upgraded iPad 2 and a real iPad 3, and now we hear Apple may have other important changes in the works for its entire 2012 product lineup.

According to the same DigiTimes, “Apple plans to completely overhaul its product lineups, including iPad, iMac, iPhone and MacBook Air, in 2012″. The publication fails to reveal any relevant details regarding most of these products, but it does focus on the next-gen iPad(s).

Apple is again said to launch two iPad models next year, with suppliers having already been hired to develop “flat panel modules and LED light bars for two iPad prototypes, codenamed J1 and J2.” Next-gen iPad production will start in December and suppliers will make around 2 million units by the end of 2011 alone.

But what about the next-gen iPhone, MacBook Air and iMac? What about other products to be launched next year?

Recent rumors suggest that Apple’s 2012 iPhone – the iPhone 5 or iPhone 6 – will be the major refresh customers were waiting for earlier this year. If that’s the case then reports suggesting the new iPhone will feature a slimmer profile, edge-to-edge display, teardrop design and new Home button will resurface at some point next year.

The MacBook Air is another interesting product to follow in 2012, especially since Apple has been reported to already work on a 15-inch MacBook Air/Pro model that could be made official at some point next year.

The iMac has been refreshed earlier this year, but it may get a major refresh in 2012 especially if Apple will decide to pull the plug on its Mac Pro project. DigiTimes reports that both the next-gen iPhone and next-gen iMac will be launched in the second half of 2012, without specifying any launch dates for these new products.

Anyone particularly thrilled about any of the devices mentioned above?

Why name it iPhone6 if the 5 hasn’t even come out. They never release 2 phones the same year.

    2. Chris Smith says:

Here are the names used for its iPhones: iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S. Of all five phones only the fourth one has a number in its name that coincides with its generation number, iPhone 4.

The fifth iPhone is called the iPhone 4S, therefore calling the sixth one iPhone 5 would be a bit curious hence why I refer to it as the iPhone 5/6.

    3. Chris says:

Thank god someone has finally acknowledged that the iPhone 4S is the fifth generation iPhone. I thought I was the only one…

    4. Josh says:

It will probably be called the iPhone 4GS and be 4G. Especially with Verizon calling for all new smart phones they plan to carry will need to be 4G LTE compatible
