LG Optimus U1 May Prove To Be LG's First Ice Cream Sandwich Phone

Word Emerges About The LG Optimus U1, A Device That May Be First To Bring Ice Cream Sandwich To LG

Interesting news on the Android front for those of you who like the way things are going in the Ice Cream Sandwich department: LG’s looking to bring out a new device that may well represent its first entrant into the Ice Cream Sandwich reign, the Optimus U1.

Briefly spotted in some photos that looked like official press images–that were promptly removed from their location out at Twitpic, reportedly–there wasn’t a whole lot mentioned about the Optimus U1. Though based on the images, some extrapolation had been made that gave at least an idea of what to expect with this one when it emerges. Possible features on this one include what looks like an eight megapixel camera (and these days, it’s a pretty safe bet that it will also tackle 1080p video along with its stills), as well as 4G LTE capability (with the network growing as it is, it’s also a fair bet to include that on the list of features) and an overall thin package, which seems to be something of an industry movement ever since the Motorola Droid RAZR brought out its unusually slim profile.

Plus, the pics themselves add at least some suggesting that the LG Optimus U1 may well be the first device to pack Ice Cream Sandwich under the LG banner. That’s just a suggestion, of course–and could have been doctored–but it’s a suggestion that bears considering nonetheless. And considering the Optimus LTE’s recent announcement, there’s every possibility that the U1 may just be the followup to the original Optimus, which would keep things well in line for a release next year.

So while only time will tell what the name of the first LG device to pack Ice Cream Sandwich will be, we can at least tell the frontrunner looks like the LG Optimus U1. But what do you guys think? Will this be the phone to get the new Android first for LG? Or do you think something different will emerge? Either way, we want to hear from you, so hit the comments section below and tell us what you think!
