iPhone 4S Falls Prey To New Bug Involving Echo On Voice Calls

iPhone 4S Hit With Audio Echo Bug Hampering Some Users' Voice Calls

A lot of people, judging by the sales figures (not to mention the sheer number of places that are reporting it sold out) are picking up their own iPhone 4S models. But along with the colossal number of sales that’s hitting for the iPhone 4S also seems to be an equally colossal number of bugs. And the newest one that’s cropping up is a problem with echo in the audio.

The audio echo bug, as some are calling it, is pretty much what it says on the box, an echo in the audio while iPhone 4S users are making phone calls. It seems to be limited to people who use wired headsets, though there doesn’t seem to be a distinction among carriers. The problem is gradual, with call quality reportedly starting off rather nicely, but deteriorating steadily throughout the course of the conversation, up to the point where the echo manages to slip in. As for how long it takes, that seems to be up in the air too, with one user reporting that the echo took anywhere from 30 seconds to fully nine minutes to start up.

Apple, meanwhile, is staying relatively mum on this issue, though some users report that there’s a fix to be had here that isn’t too tough to perform: basically, should you hear that echo on one of your calls, just enable the speakerphone function during the call, and then disable it. This restarts the cycle, and gives you a whole new time span of good quality audio before the bug apparently manages to come back.

Considering that we just saw a story of a bug that’s driving down the battery life on iPhone 4S models, not to mention earlier reports of the iPhone 4S having a set of display quality issues, it’s another in a series of bugs for the popular phone model.

Hopefully a fix will be made available for this somehow, a little more permanent than the jury-rigging you’ll have to do in the short term. But who out there is having this problem with their iPhone 4S? If you’re one of the folks having this problem–or you just want to talk iPhone 4S–head on down to the comments section!
