iPhone 4S & iPad 2 Jailbreak Already Obtained in Preliminary Form [iPhone 4S & iPad 2 Running iOS 5 Sort-of Jailbroken by iPhone Dev Team, Public Release Not Available Yet]

One of the problems – according to certain users – with two specific iOS 5 devices, the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2, is that they can’t be jailbroken. They both come with the new A5 chip on board, which is yet to be cracked by hackers.

Sure, you’ll say that the iPad 2 has already been jailbroken, but that’s only true for tablets that run iOS 4.3.3. By comparison all other iOS devices can be jailbroken no matter what iOS version they would run. Apple has patched the exploitation holes used to hack previous devices, which explains why the new hardware (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) jailbreak is still delayed.

We do know that various hackers are working on jailbreaking these two devices and according to well-known MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev Team, a “very preliminary jailbreak” has been achieved for both the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2. The problem is that there’s still plenty of work to be done before we’ll see a public release of this new jailbreak tool.

The hacker released a bunch of screenshots of the jailbroken iPhone 4S via Twitter, as always, but also a short YouTube video  showing the iPad 2 running iOS 5 and Cydia, or being jailbroken.

Here’s what he tweeted regarding the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak progress:

VERY preliminary 4S JB: http://twitpic.com/76vcp4 http://twitpic.com/76vct2 (Huge missing pieces prevent public release. LOTS of work left)

@Eng_EmzO yeah same for iPad2 (but with the same big hurdles ahead too before a public release is possible)

We have no idea what the “big hurdles” are, but nobody wants a jailbreak tool that will render some of the iPhone’s or iPad’s features useless. And history has shown that the iPhone Dev Team will not release an unfinished jailbreak version. In case you want to jailbreak the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2, then all you have to do is wait a while longer, not that we’d ever advise you to go for such procedures. But we’ll definitely keep you updated on MuscleNerd’s progress!
