Galaxy S II & Galaxy Note Ice Cream Sandwich Update Confirmed
You know what’s annoying with this brand new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version? That’s right, it won’t be available on any other device initially except for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Motorola has already confirmed that certain Android devices will be upgraded to ICS at some point in the future while HTC has also issued various statements on future ICS upgrades without committing to anything in particular.

Samsung Italy has apparently revealed the smartphones and tablets the company will upgrade to Android 4.0 in the future, but it’s not just good news. Apparently the ICS updates will be rolled out at some point in Q2 2012, which means some of the devices that are already selling in stores now will only run ICS at a point when most Android smartphone and tablet makers will roll out new devices that will most likely come with ICS on board right out of the box.
According to HDBlog, the Galaxy S II, the Galaxy Note, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Galaxy Tab 8.9, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus are going to get their own ICS versions. But what about “older” Samsung devices, such as the Galaxy S line or the entire family of Galaxy-branded family?
Yesterday we showed you an infographic detailing the fragmentation state in the Android ecosystem, although that document hardly covered all the existing Android devices out there. The more Android tablets and smartphones we see in stores, and the more Android updates Google releases, the more problematic the fragmentation problem will be. And Google, since it doesn’t control the Android environment, will not be able to force carriers and manufacturers to issue faster updates for the already launched devices.
It will be interesting to see what will happen with Motorola devices in case Google’s proposed purchase of the phone maker gets approved, but until we cross that bridge let us hear your thoughts, Samsung Android device owners, regarding the upcoming ICS update. Are you going to buy the Galaxy Nexus to enjoy Android 4.0 features or are you waiting for Samsung to update your device to ICS, no matter how long it takes?

Well what doesn’t make any sense to me is that if you look at the specs of a Nexus compared to a S2 Skyrocket, would you want to give up the power, speed and LTE just for software? Not I!
