BlackBerry PlayBook Price Cuts Did Little to Boost Sales

RIM Fails To Ignite Interest on the BlackBerry PlayBook In Spite of Massive Price Cut

It’s no secret that the BlackBerry PlayBook isn’t doing well at all. In fact, sales were so bad, RIM decided to slash off as much as $200 from its price on various retailers across the United States. But it seems even the massive reduction in price isn’t enough to convince consumers to get a PlayBook.

According to the sources of Channel Register UK, the price cuts did improve sales somewhat, but not enough to haul the PlayBook off the gadgets-that-don’t-sell corner. People are just not impressed by the seemingly lack of specs such as a native email and chat app, contact list, and 3G internet connection. For the lack of those, the PlayBook should’ve been priced much lower from the start. Maybe then it would’ve done a bit better. As it is, perhaps it too late to convert people, especially since the next PlayBook OS iteration won’t be out till February of 2012.

Do you think there’s a possibility the PlayBook is going on a firesale soon?

    1. Recent Playbook Owner says:

Maybe the sales didn’t rise much because they were sold out. I bought one on sale recently in Seattle, WA but Best Buy was completely sold out except one store 30 miles away. I bought the last one from Office Depot near work.
