Battlefield 3 Ships 10 Million Copies In Just A Few Days

Electronic Arts Touts Battlefield 3 Numbers, Says Retailers Are Already Asking For More Copies Of Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3 has only been available for just a few days (and isn’t even available in all regions yet), but already Electronic Arts is reporting a homerun. Of course, it shouldn’t surprise anybody to hear that Battlefield 3 is popular among the game playing-public, but just how popular it is might come as a shock to some (especially those self-proclaimed Modern Warfare fanboys).

During an investor call earlier today, John Riccitiello told investors that EA has shipped a total of ten million copies of Battlefield 3 so far, and that retailers are already asking for more shipments. That’s quite a few copies for only being available for three days. Electronic Arts COO Peter Moore followed up John Riccitiello’s announcement by saying that Battlefield 3 gave them the biggest day one shipment in the company’s history – twice as much as Medal of Honor.

As if that wasn’t enough, Electronic Arts also said that 3 million copies were purchased ahead of the release date, likely breaking another record for the publisher. Those are some pretty staggering statistics, and it looks like Electronic Arts and DICE are stealing market share away from Activision with Battlefield 3, which is exactly what they set out to do.

Considering that most of those 10 million copies of Battlefield 3 will more than likely find a home, it looks like everyone’s favorite analyst man, Michael Pachter, was wrong. He said just a few days ago that Battlefield 3 will only sell 8 million copies by the end of 2011, with a further 2 million sold in 2012. Not only does it look like he wrong, but it seems that he was way off.

Things are just beginning to get interesting though, with Modern Warfare 3 releasing in just under two weeks. It’ll be interesting to compare Modern Warfare 3‘s number to these higher-than-expected Battlefield 3 numbers, so keep it tuned here to TFTS for more information on this war of the military shooter giants!
