Logitech Revue Goes On Sale Bringing Variety Of Improvements Along

"New & Improved" Logitech Revue Offers Up Several New Features To Spice Up Your Home Theater

All right, folks, if you were looking for something to put a little extra punch in your home theater, the folks at Logitech may have something you’re going to want to see here. And I know Logitech hasn’t always done right by home theater buffs in the past, but the new–and improved–Logitech Revue has a few compelling reasons going for it.

Perhaps the biggest part of the “new and improved” placard stamped all over the Logitech Revue boxes is the boosting of the Android to version 3.1, as well as access to Android Market, meaning that you’ll be able to get in on a variety of apps for your television as well, which seems to be where more of the smart TV market is heading. Hopefully also will be a way to play Angry Birds on it, because that’s probably one of the high points of the Android Market anyway.

The bad news, reportedly, is that while the boxes are marked as having Android 3.1 involved, it technically isn’t. At least, not yet–the boxes in question were put out prematurely, according to reports, and this led more than a few to suggest that the long-awaited (and regularly delayed) over the air update was set to arrive soon so as to let Logitech save face.

As for pricing on this one, no one’s sure if that previous $99 it was at will be sticking around for the new version, but if it does, you might have a winner in the making here, especially with the next Google TV push in the works. You’ll need to keep your eye out at your electronics store of choice for these, as they’re just now starting to hit.

Generally I’m in favor of most any development that makes home theater systems better, though in this case I’m not sure the Logitech Revue can stack up against the various competitors out there like Roku, Boxee and even Apple. So I’ll put that one to you instead: think the new and improved Logitech Revue is sufficiently so to make it worth a second look? Or is it going to be flattened in the marketplace by its various competitors? No matter what you think, the comments section is waiting for you, so head on down and tell us what you think!

It’s ridiculous to compare googletv to other $99 set top boxes- Googletv is a computer that can search the web- it’s not some dumb video app processor box like appletv or roku. At $99 the revue is a great deal with working technology right now- adding honeycomb will just increase googletv’s usefulness. It’s not yet a full HTPC replacement but it’s darned close!

    2. Carter, I really don’t think it’s ridiculous to make that comparison at all. They’re all in the same industry and serve the same essential purpose; comparisons are inevitable.
