iTunes Movies Now Available in More Countries

Apple Adds iTunes Movie Support to Various European Countries Following the iTunes Music Store Roll Out In the Same Regions]

Apple recently launched its iTunes Music Store in 12 new European markets and updated its terms and conditions at the time to address the new changes. Back then, users noted that the modified terms of service contained references to Apple’s music, music video, movie and TV show content although the company did not flip the switch on movies and TV shows in those countries.

Starting today, it appears that Apple has updated the local iTunes Stores to show movie content. Unfortunately not all the 12 countries received movies support, as Romania was left out of the current iTunes store update. iTunes users in Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta and Poland now have access to Apple’s iTunes movie collection. Just like in other markets, they’ll be able to rent HD or SD movies and buy their favorite titles.

On top of the new markets, it appears that customers in Greece and Portugal also have access to the movie catalog via iTunes, although these markets have had iTunes Music Store support since 2004.

Apple’s intentions are pretty clear as the company seems interested in letting more and more of customers access further content, whether its music or movies. By adding movie rentals/purchase support to local iTunes stores the company is preparing the way for an Apple TV launch in more markets. This is an even more important expansion to note especially considering the increasing number of reports that suggest Apple is considering creating its very own HDTV model, one that will surely come with built-in Apple TV features and therefore plenty of access to movies and TV shows.

Speaking of TV shows, they’re still unavailable in these new markets, but considering Apple’s content push in these regions we wouldn’t be surprised to see the company add TV shows to their offerings at a later date.
