Nokia World 2011: Nokia Asha 200, 201, 300 & 303 Unveiled

Nokia Announces Four Entry-Level Symbian Devices, Reminds Us It’s Not All Just About Windows Phone 7 Smartphones] (u

Nokia took the Nokia World 2011 stage today in London to announce, as expected, its first Windows Phone 7.5 Mango handsets, which we kept seeing in various leaks in the weeks preceding the event.

But it’s not just WP7 handsets that Nokia unveiled today as the company is still a big player in markets where customers are rather interested in cheaper handsets – or featurephones – for every-day communication.

Stephen Elop, Nokia’s CEO, introduced four new phones “that continue to blur the lines,” all part of the new Asha line. These are the Asha 200, the Asha 201, the Asha 300 and the Asha 303.

The Asha 200 will offer you 32GB of memory, MP3 player capabilities, a loud speaker, long-lasting battery life ready to sport 52 hours of music playback and a full QWERTY keyboard. The phone offers dual SIM support and runs Symbian S40. The Asha 201 is going to offer the same features, sans the dual SIM support.

The Asha 300 is a simple candybar smartphone that comes with dual SIM capabilities.

The Asha 303 appears to be the bigger brother of the Asha 300, a phone with a QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen display that packs a 1GHz processor, Wi-Fi and 3G support, built-in Nokia Maps, Symbian S40 with apps support, including Angry Birds.

These phones seem to have been crafted with emerging and developing markets in mind, but I’m sure they’re going to sell well in other regions too as we’re probably looking at more than affordable handsets ready to meet the needs of various mobile customers.

What we don’t know at this time is where these new Asha handsets will be available initially and how much they’ll cost but we’ll bring you such details once Nokia makes them official. Naturally the stars of the Nokia World show are going to follow, the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango smartphones, so stick around for more Nokia coverage.

Update: All Asha phones will be available later this year:

  • Asha 200 – €60 or around $84
  • Asha 201 – €60 or around $84
  • Asha 300 – €85 or around $118
  • Asha 303 – €115 or around $160

There’s no such thing as Symbian S40. Please, correct your facts.
