Kindle Fire Production Gets Stepped Up Due To Huge Demand [Overwhelming Demand For Amazon's Kindle Fire Tablet Has Caused A Boost In Production Orders, Says Amazon]
It may only come as something of a partial surprise to reveal that the Kindle Fire turned out to be popular. But while we all had a pretty good idea that the tablet that could be bought alongside an iPad 2 without incident would be a big seller, it may be a surprise to find out just how big a seller it’s turning out to be. And it’s sufficiently big to get Amazon ready to up production and turn out “millions” more than anticipated.

The combination of several factors at once is said to be behind the Kindle Fire’s substantial uptick in preorders; remember, the device doesn’t even go on sale until November 15th, and as such, all the numbers you’ve seen or heard so far are preorder only. Naturally, there’s the Kindle Fire’s connection to Amazon and the vast amount of media contained therein. But, according to a recent survey, one of the biggest item segments this year for expected holiday shopping is electronics, and specifically, tablets. Turns out tablets top adults’ consumer electronics gift lists, and come in second only to clothes on overall wish lists. Add to this the fact that people are looking to spend an average of $246 on electronics gifts this season, well within the Kindle Fire’s $199, and suddenly you’ve got a recipe for big sales.
Though big sales on a loss leader doesn’t necessarily mean great things for Amazon itself, at least not in the short term. Their third-quarter earnings report said that, while sales were up 44 percent, net income was down 73 percent. But clearly Amazon is hoping that the loss leader will bring back its weight in electronic media sales, and given what we just saw from Conde Nast, that’s not exactly a forlorn hope.
So what do you guys think about this? Have you joined the growing numbers who put down a preorder on a Kindle Fire? Or do you have a different tablet in mind for your various holiday shopping endeavors? The comments section is waiting down below, so head on down and tell us what you think!
