Battlefield 1943 Missing From PS3 Copies Of Battlefield 3 [PS3 Players Didn't Get Promised Copy Of Battlefield 1943 With Battlefield 3, Electronic Arts Doesn't Give A Real Reason For Its Absence]
Back before Battlefield 3‘s launch, Electronic Arts and DICE promised that Battlefield 1943, a much-loved shooter from 2009, would be included for free along with PS3 copies of DICE’s Modern Warfare killer. Given the popularity of Battlefield 1943, that’s a pretty attractive deal, and probably convinced more than a handful of gamers to go with the PS3 version over the PC or Xbox 360 version.

There’s just one problem: when PS3 gamers arrived home yesterday and ripped open their brand new copy of Battlefield 3, there was no Battlefield 1943 to be found. As it turns out, Electronic Arts just decided not to include Battlefield 1943 along with the PS3 version of Battlefield 3.
So, why is there no Battlefield 1943? When a disgruntled gamer brought the issue up to the @Battlefield Twitter account, he was met with this reply:
In lieu of 1943 being available on disk for PS3 customers, EA has made all BF3 expansions available early to PS3 customers.
That’s funny, because they didn’t mention that Battlefield 3 wouldn’t be getting Battlefield 1943 when they announced that the PS3 version will be getting DLC before the Xbox 360 and PC version last month. Of course, there’s been no real reason stated for the absence of Battlefield 1943, but this makes me think that Electronic Arts is planning on shutting down the Battlefield 1943 servers soon. Not including the game along with Battlefield 3 is a simple way to avoid angry customers if they eventually decide to pull the plug.
Regardless of what their actual reasons are, it’s still a crappy move on the part of Electronic Arts. Between this and the recent debacle with Warner Bros. and Batman: Arkham City, I’m pretty much ready to give up on the thought that publishers will actually include promised content at launch.
What’s your take? Are you upset that Electronic Arts chose not to include Battlefield 1943 like they said they would? Are you surprised that they didn’t include it? Head down to the comments section to sound off!
