Apple Site To Store Shipping Rolls Out Under Sherwood Program [The First Apple Store Gets A Ship To Store Option, All The Rest To Follow Soon, Say Reports]

Just two days ago, we filled you in on the Sherwood program, in which Apple was planning to add a ship to store option to its roster of options. But while we didn’t know then just when it was going to roll out, or where it would start up, we have the answers to both of those questions today as the first store to get a ship to store option is announced.

It got fired up a little while ago, according to reports, and now if you live anywhere near the San Francisco Apple Stores (including Chestnut Street and Stonestown, reportedly) and you’ve meant to do some shopping, you no longer need concern yourself with shipping via UPS or Fed Ex or whatever. No, now you’ll be able to have Apple send the stuff directly to the Apple Store in San Francisco for you to go and pick up yourself. By way of reminder, though, you’ll be needing a form of photo ID when you go in to get it, and should you be unable to, you can appoint one designee to do the job though they too will be needing photo ID to do the job.

And, should you folks in San Francisco want to return that MacBook Pro or iPhone 4S you bought online, you’ll be able to take it back to that Apple Store as well.

There’s no word yet on when this program will be extended to all the other Apple Stores out there, a development Apple fans are no doubt eagerly awaiting (especially with holiday shopping season not too far ahead, we’ll probably see Black Friday deals starting up in the next couple weeks), but considering that we went from announcement to rollout in the space of two days, it’s not likely to take too long to get all the other stores up to snuff.

So what do you guys think of this development? Make you want to buy more Apple goodies assuming you’ll be able to ship them to your local store? Or is this too little too late for Apple, who has definitely come late to the ship to store party? Either way, we want to hear from you, so head on down to the comments section and tell us what you think!
