Slow Sprint iPhone 4S Data Speed? Apple Investigates Alongside Carrier
The iPhone has been Sprint’s unicorn for quite a few quarters since Apple launched the device, as subscriber losses were usually blamed on the carrier’s inability to offer those customers an iOS smartphone.

But starting with October 4, when Apple officially announced the iPhone 4S, Sprint became the third carrier in the U.S. to sell the iPhone, exactly as various rumors and reports predicted in the days preceding the event.
Despite record first-day iPhone sales reported by the mobile operator’s, things aren’t exactly that great for “The Now Network” as various iPhone 4S users are experiencing slow data speeds when using the handset to browse the web. Sprint officially denied any network issues when its customers reported the problem, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.
Apparently Sprint sent an internal email to inform its representatives that Apple will work together with the carrier to fix the “confirmed nationwide issue.” Other details were not available in the email, so we have no idea what is causing it and when it will be fix. The email did include a piece of relevant information, TheNextWeb reports:
The email did contain a reference to a ‘Service Settings’ update, which sounds like it could be referring to the carrier settings file that contains access point info for the carriers.
But I suspect we won’t get any confirmation on the issues from Apple or Sprint yet. On the other hand both companies have plenty of reasons to make whatever it’s causing the issue go away as soon as possible. The Black Friday and Christmas shopping season are approaching fast, and considering that Sprint is the only U.S. carrier still offering unlimited data plans to new and existing smartphone owners, it probably has big plans for the upcoming holiday shopping spree.
