O2 Galaxy Nexus to Launch Sometime in November [O2 Lists Samsung Galaxy Ice Cream Sandwich Smartphone, Doesn’t Mention Prices or Release Date]

The latest Google Nexus smartphone was announced last week during a joint Samsung-Google media event. Verizon will launch the phone in the USA soon as the Galaxy Nexus, although other mobile operators, including Sprint, may also carry it later this year.

Samsung didn’t offer and specific release dates during the press event and only mentioned that the phone will hit various international markets in November. Today we hear that UK Android fans will be able to get their Galaxy Nexus fix from O2, but the carrier failed to reveal actual pricing and release dates.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus has been listed as “coming soon: November” on O2’s website but the carrier doesn’t offer a sign-up page or pre-orders options for the ICS handset at this time.

While we wait for more launch details of this U.K Galaxy Nexus version, let’s go over the handset’s main specs and features one more time, just in case you missed the official announcement event:

  • 4.64-inch HD AMOLED curved display
  • 1,280 x 720 resolution
  • Gorilla Glass display
  • 1.2GHz dual-core TI OMAP processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 32GB memory
  • HSPA+ technology (up to 21Mbps download speeds)
  • 5-megapixel Panoramic camera with LED flash and HD video recording at 30fps
  • 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for videocalling
  • 8.84mm profile
  • GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, microUSB
  • NFC support
  • Accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, barometer
  • 1,750mAh battery
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

The Galaxy Nexus is, obviously, the main iPhone 4S rival, but the handset will have face some tough competition from other Android handsets in worldwide markets, like the Motorola Droid RAZR, which was also launched last week. Not to mention that most carriers are getting ready to launch a new generation of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango devices, including upcoming models from Nokia, which should be unveiled in the following days.

What smartphone are you more likely to buy this holiday shopping season? Are you getting the Galaxy Nexus or will you buy something from the competition instead?

I’ve had enough with mobile phone companies and service providers and Verizon and Motorola are the worst! Verizon/Motorola took pretty much all of 2011 stringing us along about the Droid Bionic. Promises, promises, promises. Then, after months of pulling us along they give us a larger version of every other Motorola phone with a dual core processor. Seriously? Did it take 8 months to make the same exact shell they’ve used a hundred times and cram a dual core processor in it? No. Motorola and Verizon are playing games. They wanted to keep people on Verizon’s network and Motorola wanted to keep people from buying other companies’ phones. By the time the Bionic came out it’s features were old news! Then, magically to combat the Galaxy Nexus, Motorola hints at the Droid Razr. Well, Motorola, you aren’t fooling me this time! I’m not waiting until Oct 2012 for the Razr to appear! And Verizon thinks that they can also “release” a Galaxy Nexus but not tell us a release date. “Sometime in the November”, “Sometime in 2012″, “Sometime after the present”. Go to Hades Verizon, and take Motorola with you. Samsung might need to join the ride also. Companies do use release dates to make more money; but Verizon, you are absolutely ridiculous. 8 months to come up with the Bionic. Give me a break!

No Gorilla Glass on the Galaxy Nexus. That is incorrect.
