Semi-untethered iOS 5 Jailbreak Available, iPhone 4S & iPad 2 Not Supported [New Cydia Tweak Lets iOS 5 Device Enjoy an Almost Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone, iPad & iPod touch]
iOS jailbreaking has been for a long time a favorite procedure for many iDevice users that wanted to further customize their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch by downloading apps and resources that were not allowed in the official Apple Store, but, since we’re talking about jailbreak features, also to download pirated copies of the existing apps.

And while Apple doesn’t support jailbreaking and warns customers that such procedures may lead to a breaking the devices’ warranty, millions of iDevices users do it. In fact the iPhone Dev Team has already jailbroken the last major iOS version, iOS 5, and both Mac and Windows users can use the latest Redsn0w version to jailbreak their devices, or at least some of them.
Unfortunately the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 running iOS 5 can’t be jailbroken at this time, since they’re new products with fresh new hardware that doesn’t offer the same exploitable wholes previous devices come with. But every other iDevice that support iOS 5 can be jailbroken, not that we’d recommend you go down that path.
One minor caveat with the current iOS 5 hacking solution is that it doesn’t offer an untetethered jailbreak. That means you’ll have to connect your handset with your Mac or PC every time you want to reboot it into a jailbroken mode, hence we’re looking at a tethered jailbreak tool.
While the iPhone Dev Team works on an update for Redsn0w that will support untethered jailbreaks, we have found a Cydia tweak for you that will let you enjoy a partially-untethered jailbreak for your iDevice of choice.
This jailbreak solution is called “SemiTether” and it’s available via Cydia on the BigBoss repository. In order to get it you will have to jailbreak your iOS 5 device the regular way. Once Cydia is available and you install the tweak, you will be able to reboot your iDevice ito a jailbreak state without connecting it to the computer. However there’s a downside to using it: you won’t have access to Safari, Mail, Cydia and any of the jailbreak apps on the device. This tweak will let you practically reboot the device, when absolutely necessary, even when away from the computer. Once you have access to the machine again you’ll be able to reboot the iDevice into a fully jailbroken state and enjoy all the apps on it, just like before.
Have you jailbroken your iOS 5 device yet?
