Verizon Announces Unique Sale Pricing For The HTC Rhyme
It looks like Verizon Wireless has come up with a unique way to promote sales of the HTC Rhyme smartphone. The method is making use of Facebook and their system of Likes.

Basically, the savings can potentially reach 50 percent off of the retail pricing. In other words, the $199.99 price point could be dropped down to the $100 level. Of course, the catch with that, the potential savings began at 10 percent, is currently sitting at 25 percent and closing in on 35 percent.
The way this is all working is that the more people who “Like” the page on Facebook, the greater the discount. It began at 10 percent with less than 250 likes and from there increased to 25 percent with 500 likes and will go to 35 percent with 1000 likes and 50 percent with 2000 (or more) likes.
Anyway, while this sounds like a really interesting way to drum some fanfare up to increase sales — it is not like the HTC Rhyme cannot be found at a bargain price already. For example, both Amazon Wireless and Wirefly have it priced at $49.99. And that is a $49.99 without having to wait for more people to like the page to increase the discount.
Bottom line, we commend Verizon for a unique effort, but personally, we would rather shop from a third party and save now, not later. Not to mention, the greatest discount with Verizon will be 50 percent which means you would still be paying about $50 more than if you shopped with either Amazon Wireless or Wirefly.
Either way though, regardless of where you buy you will be getting a two-year agreement with Verizon and features to include a 3.7 inch (480 x 800) WVGA display, single-core 1GHz Qualcomm processor, 3G speeds, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS, VGA quality front facing camera, 5 megapixel rear facing camera and Android 2.3 Gingerbread with version 3.5 of the HTC Sense user interface.
And lastly, for those who do make the purchase, don’t forget to claim your 5GB of free Dropbox storage.
