Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Release Date & Pricing Official

New 7-inch Galaxy Tab Android Tablet Coming on November 13 for $399.99 Sans Ice Cream Sandwich

A new Galaxy Tab tablet is about to be launched in the USA and we have release dates and pricing for it. The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is the device in question and while it lacks any traces of an Ice Cream Sandwich spirit, it comes with Honeycomb on board.

Before we move to specs and features I’ll have to say the name of this device is really annoying. On the other hand a Galaxy Tab 7 II wouldn’t make much sense, would it, especially since its predecessor, also a 7-inch machine, was simply called the Galaxy Tab.

Let’s look at the main hardware characteristics this tablet has to offer:

  • 7-inch display
  • weight: 345g
  • thickness: 9.96mm
  • 1.2GH dual-core processor
  • 16GB memory
  • Android Honeycomb OS
  • Built-in infrared capabilities
  • Peel Smart Remote TV application on board

The device will be available starting with November 13 from Best Buy, Amazon, Tiger Direct, Fry’s and others with pre-orders starting on October 23. The tablet will cost $399, $100 less than the cheapest iPad 2 version but double the cost of its direct rival, the Kindle Fire. Moreover, we’re looking only at a 16GB Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus version for now as the press-release doesn’t say anything about other models.

Also important to note is the fact that no carriers are mentioned by the press release, but then again the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus lacks 3G according to the same document so mobile operators can’t be interested in selling this device for a subsidized price, can they?

One particular feature of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus that stands out is the infrared connection that will allow users to control their home entertainment system with help of the built-in Peel Smart Remote TV application:

Featuring built-in infrared capabilities, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus can control the user’s home theater/TV setup. The Peel integration on the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus goes beyond the Peel application available for download today by no longer requiring additional hardware or cables for TV control functionality. Peel allows users to control any home entertainment system regardless of manufacturer.

Peel combined with the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus can control the entire home entertainment system, including the TV, set-top box, DVD, Blu-ray player and AV audio system. Peel will provide Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus users with a social aspect as well, connecting them directly to Facebook and Twitter to share what they are watching with their social networks.

Is that enough to convince you to buy the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus instead of the cheaper Kinde Fire this holiday season?
