Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade Confirmed
Motorola confirmed yesterday that its latest Android flagship smartphone, the Droid RAZR, will get its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade at some point in the first half of next year. More details will be shared with the public six weeks after Google releases Ice Cream Sandwich, which probably means six weeks after the Galaxy Nexus is launched.

What about Droid Bionic, Droid X2, Droid 3, Droid X, and other Moto Android devices, you ask? Motorola confirmed today via Facebook that the Droid Bionic will also be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich, but there’s no news regarding other Moto Android handsets that should also get ICS in the future. Just like with the Droid RAZR, Motorola is not yet ready to specify when the ICS update will be available:
Droid Bionic by Motorola will get upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich and we’ll share timing after Google releases the final version of ICS
The Droid Bionic is Motorola’s first 4G LTE Android handset. The company announced the Droid Bionic back in January during CES 2011, but then the phone was delayed for quite a few months in order to be further improved. The phone then finally hit Verizon stores on September 8, after numerous rumors suggested it would be launched a lot earlier than that.

The Droid Bionic is currently available only in the U.S. via Verizon, and the buzz around it has died down since becoming official, which is characteristic for the Android universe where a newer, better handset is almost always just around the corner.
Verizon is getting ready for an impressive holiday season when it comes to smartphone offerings. On top of the Droid Bionic, the carrier will also sell three more LTE Android handsets, the Droid RAZR, the HTC Rezound (Vigor) and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, although the last two still need official confirmation. The carrier is also selling the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, which makes choosing a smartphone from Big Red even more difficult.
But let’s hear it from Droid Bionic owners, are you going to upgrade to the RAZR or any of the upcoming Android devices hitting Verizon soon or are you just waiting for your Ice Cream Sandwich update?

I’m a DROID bionic owner and. I love my phone I’m just waiting for the ice cream sandwich. I got a question will voice command be better then siri?
After having suffered (and continue to) with the Droid X Gingerbread update debacle, I’m not sure I would even want ICS on it.
Glad I bought the Moto Droid Bionic now after seeing the the Nexus Prime ICS specs. Bionic is a giant leap ahead of it and ICS should run on Bionic effortlessly. To be honest, Google really need to set and honor release dates such as GTV 2.0 that has yet to be released, and avoid dumb issues like the Gingerbread debacle with Droid X a year ago. Take ownership and have some integrity Google.
Can’t see rolling off of a phone I’ve not had two months. No, I’ll wait for ICS to get shared…and let the early adopters work the bugs out first.
I purchased the bionic day one, but should have waited for the Razr I guess, as the bionic with the extended battery is huge. Can’t see spending the money to upgrade 2 months later.
I’m keeping my Bionic and waiting for ICS. Can’t wait!
Love my droid bionic hell w the razr rezbound nexus razr sucks now removable battery n. The other two like them jus not gunna get cuz i already upgrading I can’t wait till ICS hits bionic. BIONIC is fast as them jus little faster who cares. DROID BIONIC FTW!!!!!!!!
is there a release date on the ics upgrade for the bionic, i am having a few problems that i have been told ics might fix…anxiously awaiting the big day!
No, unfortunately there are no release dates for ICS upgrades. It’s up to the carriers to launch them anyhow so it will be a few months until the Bionic gets ICS.
Definitely keeping my Bionic and waiting for ICS. None of these new phones are worth an upgrade. I’ll wait for something groundbreaking.
