BlackBerry Bold 9980 “Knight” by Porsche Design Coming on October 27?
Remember that special BlackBerry Bold 9980 model, also known as the Knight, that we’ve seen demoed recently? The device looks like nothing RIM has created so far although it still bears the same familiar BlackBerry lines. That’s because Porsche Design has created the handset in collaboration with RIM. And it looks like the two companies are going to announce the Bold 9980 at a special event scheduled for October 27.

The media event is going to take place in Dubai and it will be hosted by Porsche Design and BlackBerry. Unless RIM is about to announce the first BlackBerry car running some sort of a BBX-powered Porsche engine, I’m pretty sure the phone in the image above will finally be unveiled.
And what better place to launch such a device than Dubai, in Burj Khalifa, one of the most impressive skyscrapers in the world. In fact the announcement will be hosted at the At.Mosphere restaurant, which holds the Guinness World Record for “Highest Restaurant From Ground Level.”

Considering the chosen location of the event, and the luxury the invitation implies, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that the BlackBerry Bold 9980 Knight, or whatever they end up calling it, will be a limited edition BlackBerry handset that will sell for quite a premium price. At this time there are no details regarding pricing or release dates for the upcoming Bold 9980 version. When it comes to hardware, I think it’s safe to say the handset will offer some of the same set of specs and features the “regular” BlackBerry Bold 9900 packs. Naturally, the only thing that would be significantly different is the overall design which reflects Porsche’s own version of a flagship RIM handset .

In case you’re interested in the “regular” Bold 9900, you’ll find it in stores with various carriers in the USA but also in other international markets. While the device doesn’t really measure up in hype when compared to the iPhone 4S or prominent Android devices it still is worthy of your consideration. The Bold 9900 comes with a 2.8-inch touchscreen display, 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor, 8GB of RAM, 5-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, flash and HD video recording, a full QWERTY keyboard and BlackBerry OS under the hood.
On a completely different note, Nokia will host it’s Nokia World event during the same period, where it’s expected to announce its first Windows Phone 7.5 Mango smartphones.

I like blackberry and I like porsche but I would never buy this phone it looks terrible where did they think this design reminds you about porsche let me guess two designers whose products are more curvy than most come together and make the bland est squarest product I have ever seen. All I can say is why.
of course it will be available mainly in filthy rich middle east. its the only way to sell it to those suckers willing to pay a couple of grand for a blackberry. try it in the US and they’ll become museum pieces.same story with the porsche design flip phone available in the US which you’ll only see at the Porsche design stores but none on the streets
