AT&T Activated 2.7 Million iPhones Last Quarter
AT&T recently announced that is has activated a million iPhone 4S, making it the most successful iPhone launch to date. Considering iPhone is not longer an exclusive AT&T affair, that’s pretty darn impressive. But the summer before the iPhone 4S release is a very dark period in comparison. AT&T posted its earnings for last quarter, and it showed that AT&T activated 2.7 million iPhones, down from last year’s 3.6 million.

People’s knowledge of a new device from Apple perhaps kept them from getting a new phone, contributing to the decline. Numbers might be down by almost a million, but the iPhone still makes up the bulk of AT&T’s business, shipping 56% of all the 4.8 million iPhones sold in the United States. In spite of iPhone’s dominance, AT&T says its suite of Android device sis going strong, and has been increasing in sales year by year. AT&T’s wireless subscribers in general increased by 2.1 million as the carrier broke through the 100 million mark.
