Sony PlayStation Store Begins Offering Game Downloads To Certain Sony Devices

Sony Tablet S Owners Can Now Get PlayStation Games Via Their Tablet & Other PlayStation Certified Devices To Come

Big news for those of you out there who have “PlayStation Certified” devices, as the Sony PlayStation Store opens up downloads of certain game titles. You’ll be able to pick from a small handful of titles, and lots more are said to be on the way, as well as devices that can get in on this. This is one of the down sides to the whole affair as, at last report, the number of PlayStation Certified devices stands at one.

And for owners of that one device, currently the Sony Tablet S, you’ll have access to a handful of titles, including some terrific retro fare like Jet Moto and its sequel, as well as Hot Shots Golf 2 and Cool Boarders, a couple of my old favorites from the PS1 days. Each title will cost fully $5.99 apiece, and there are a total of ten to choose from at last report. Downloads will only be supported by wi-fi, probably because we’re talking about some fairly substantial file sizes even for older games.

Sony is reportedly doing all it can to expand the number of devices that will be able to accommodate the Sony PlayStation Store and become PlayStation Certified devices. Word is that the next one to emerge will likely be the Sony Tablet P when it goes on sale soon, and behind that, Sony’s looking toward getting PlayStation Certification onto a slew of Android phones as well.

And this may have an interesting effect on the markets as well. I can’t help but look at this situation and wonder, of all the iPhone 4S users out there, of all the iPhone 4 users out there, how many would turn to Android instead because it could play PlayStation games where iPhone simply couldn’t? If it were any sufficient quantity, you might well see the iPhone line get taken down a peg.

But what about you guys? Would any of you throw over an iPhone, be it 4 or 4S, for an Android device that could play old PlayStation games? Or is this one of those features that just doesn’t have sufficient interest? Either way, the comments section is waiting for you below, so head on down and tell us what you think!

Lets face it…there are some hard core Playstation fans out there who would love to play their old games on a tablet.

At the end of the day the sony tablet can do pretty much everything that the IPAD 2 can whereas the IPAD 2 cant do half the stuff the stuff Sony’s Tablet can potentially do.

    2. Thiador–I believe it. That’s why I put the question out there. I wondered how many people would end up leaving Apple for PlayStation Capable devices. You sound like you’d be one of them.

I would. Apple and Sonys business strategy are generally the same but Sony has a better advantage due to its wide ecosystem of its own produced content.

      Apple: Macbook=Iphone=iTunes

      Sony: Bravia=Playstation=Xperia=SEN(Sony Entertainment Network)

Everything works well when you choose one of them for your entertainment needs.

What of the PSN mini games? They must work on the S Tab. What of a PS3 controller app. :/ Netflix?

Sent from a Sony S Tablet xD

    5. Right now we’ve only got word about those ten titles. I’d look for that stuff to be added on in the future.

    6. If the Kindle Fire has proven anything it’s that people want media access. iTunes provides that, sure, but Sony has quite a bit more going on.
