Nintendo Holding 3DS Event This Friday

Okay, so the 3DS didn’t have the best launch, and the months that followed left gamers hungry for some actual games to play on their new console. I’ve been pretty critical of Nintendo for flubbing their 3DS launch, and understandably so, I’ve been called out for bashing Nintendo based on the poorly handled launch and not waiting to see how the 3DS does this holiday season.

And you know what? Those people who called me out are right. Whether or not the 3DS succeeds as a dedicated gaming handheld depends a lot on how well it performs this holiday season. So, it goes without saying that Nintendo is going to pull out all the stops to get as many units under trees as they can this year.

Perhaps that’s why they’re giving an internet 3DS presentation this coming Friday? Truthfully, not too much is known about what the presentation entails, but we know that at least two things with be discussed: in this pre-recorded presentation, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata will be talking about their planned November 3DS firmware update and Mario Kart 7‘s wireless play functionality.

And that’s… all we know at the moment. Obviously, if they leave the talking points at those two topics, this presentation is going to be short and boring, so don’t be surprised if Iwata has a few announcements to make during his presentation. We’ll have to wait until the presentation begins (October 21st at 8 PM – 7 AM Eastern) to find out more, though.
