Didn't Get Your Batman: Arkham City DLC? Warner Bros. Has A Convoluted Way To Fix It!

Warner Bros. Issues A Convoluted & Unnecessary 'Fix' For Those Who Can't Access Batman: Arkham City DLC

With people having issues redeeming their codes for the DLC packed in with their new copies of Batman: Arkham City (and some not even getting codes at all), I think it’s safe to say that the launch of Batman: Arkham City is a disaster. Guess what? It’s all because of online pass too!

Seriously, I keep saying that online pass is no good, but for some reason there are still people out there that are actually standing up for publishers’ implementation of the very flawed and very greedy system. Anyway, if you’re having issues redeeming any of the DLC for Batman: Arkham City, Warner Bros. has a fix for you that requires you to – you guessed it! – jump through more hoops.

This convoluted five-step process comes courtesy of a Joystiq tipster that actually managed to get through to Warner Bros. customer support. Here’s what you’ll need to send into Warner Bros. in order to finally get your DLC:

  • A dated proof of purchase (receipt, invoice) showing the purchase of a NEW copy of the game (not a rented or used copy, nor a copy purchased from eBay)
  • Your gamertag for Xbox Live, or your profile for the PSN
  • Your email address
  • A scan or digital picture of the package and game disc(s)
  • A scan or digital picture of the code sheet (both sides).

Okay Warner Bros., we need to have a talk here. You fucked up. This isn’t just some simple misunderstanding where a few copies shipped without codes, but a massive portion of your day one supporters can’t access content that is an integral part of the narrative Rocksteady worked long and hard to create. Then, when it comes to attention of everyone that you royally screwed up by implementing online pass in a single player game, you demand that those who bought your game brand new not only send you proof of purchase, but their email addresses and pictures of the packaging, game discs, and cards.

You’re treating paying customers like criminals, and you’re supposed to be giving people incentives to buy your games new. Frankly, it’s bullshit that you’re requiring those that are having issues (through no fault of their own) send in all this information just so you can unlock portions of the game they paid a full $60 for in a week or so.

Get your shit together Warner Bros. Make the DLC and Catwoman portions of the game free to everyone. Those who came out to support a great game and a great developer on day one should not be at the mercy of your greed.

If you’re as pissed off as I am, head down to the comments section and let it out. Let it all out.

I’m so pissed off right now…

    2. Devastated says:

I’m getting my Robin Edition tomorrow morning! I’m praying that the codes are there and actually work! Warner Bros. should be ashamed of themselves and should at least offer the online pass for free now. Is there no end to their greed? I feel really cheated and ripped off to be honest.

    3. bob says:

i pre-ordered from game stop and best buy no codes from ether. super pissed wb can go to hell i will never buy a game from them again. corporate asshole don’t know shit about gaming.

    4. Batman's armpit says:

I feel seriously pissed off. Bought the game today (in the UK) and it has no code in the box. Now I have to wait for WB to get their act together so I can play the game…. …trouble is the Catwoman section is apparently a prologue so I feel like I shouldnt play it until I get it. GRRRRR

    5. Kevin says:

Got the game from Best Buy, got both my codes, no problems at all, but seriously, screw these guys. It’s bad enough I had to download a patch the moment I got home and then download DLC so it was like 2:00 by the time I got to play, but to hear that some people just don’t get Catwoman because publishers can’t handle that when they sell something it is a physical product, not a digital pass, that’s bullshit. Arkham City is too polished of a work to tarnish like this.

    6. Dawson says:

I dont have live and it feels like a slap in the face that I cant acsess 10% of the game I paid $60 for, I dont know what was going through thier heads.

    7. micronaut65 says:

there’s a fine line between making a fortune and screwing people royally. I bought my copy last week and I haven’t opened it (xbox getting fixed for god sake) and I hope Bestbuy didnt fuck me up my Bat-crack. Warner Interactive is very lucky. People like Arkham Asylum and Rocksteady followed up with an even better game. If they keep this shit up Activision will be buying them out.
Also, can we just have a decent instruction booklet? If something like 12 folded pieces of fucking paper is too much to ask for ask DC comics to make one for the game. They are a first class publisher and wouldn’t screw their customers out of something a expected as a booklet. My game was so light in the wrapper I thought I got a PS2 Jam Pack game. Haysus Marimba!

    8. soulrook18 says:

Bought the game yesterday as Everybody was recommending it now explaining how awesome catwomen/robin was etc. I start playing my one and immediately find out that I have no redeem CODE. WTF!!! I just paid £40 for a game I cant properly play yet! How long does it take for WB to get back to you? This is such a fucking piss take . . .

    9. The Dark Knight Returns says:

To say the launch was a “disaster” is obviously the comment of another uninformed video game “blogger”, more commonly known as a troll. Out of all the people I know that got the game (somewhere around 20), 1 person didn’t get the codes. So you know what he did? He played the game while waiting for the codes to be sent. The game doesn’t not function without them, so just play until the fix comes in. This isn’t like losing an arm for chrissakes.

The fact of the matter is that this happened to a very small percentage of people and while it is totally unfortunate and it sucks, this is called life. This has happened with other games in the past and will happen in the future so long as there are little slips of paper to pack inside the CD case.

The solution is ridiculous, for that there is no debate, but that’s Warner Brothers for you. Keep in mind though that supporting this game is showing support for Rock Steady, who have done an amazing job for such a small studio. It’s unfortunate that the distribution partner has to be WB but hey, they own the Batman rights so there’s no avoiding it.

In conclusion – suck it up. Mistakes happen. If a small event like this (a skin? A set of chapters that don’t really impact the game? Come on!) prevents you from enjoying what is a marvelous game, then I feel sorry for the lot of you. Mind you, I used to get upset about stuff when I was 14 as well. Live and you learn I suppose.

    10. Eric Abent says:

Ah yes, Warner Bros. locks portions of a single player game, holds them ransom until players enter a code, doesn’t include the code in a number of new copies of the game, yet I’m the troll. Really? I’m sorry I didn’t tell people who didn’t get a code to just “suck it up,” like you would have preferred, but if I did that I wouldn’t be doing my job. Online pass is a terrible idea – it always has been, and it always will be. I’ve never liked it, and I’m in a rather unique position where I can help hold publishers who make mistakes like this accountable.

By saying “yeah you didn’t get a code, it sucks, but it’s called life,” you’re basically saying that the complaints of the people who didn’t get a code in a game they paid $60 for are insignificant, which they aren’t. If you think that the problem isn’t that widespread, maybe you should check out the comment thread on this post. There’s a lot of people who came out on day one to support a great franchise from a great developer and they get shit on by Warner Bros. instead. Even if one person out of the two million people that bought the game in the first week didn’t get their code, that’s an issue, because this is supposed to reward those who supported the game, developer, and publisher by buying it new.

So please, spare me all of this crap about being a troll.

    11. another fooled customer says:

Well after so royally messing things up just for greed, I don’t feel like sucking anything. It should be WB who does the sucking. It’s they screw-up, so their job to do things right. Their behaviour just shows complete lack of respect of their customers. And why is it so that only those who buy these games have to go through all kind of s***t just to play it? If they use DRM, the least they should do is to make it easy ( = transparent).
