CyanogenMod Releases Updated Version Of Android For The HP TouchPad
CyanogenMod released the Alpha 1 Lower Your Expectations version of Android for the HP TouchPad just about a week back, and coming in some good news — a follow-up version is now available. That being said, we should point out up front that this newly released version is still an early release and not the final product.

In other words, similar to Alpha 1, this release may not be what everyone is hoping to see. You know, there is likely to be some issues and some bugs as well as some features that simply do not yet work. That aside, this release comes as Alpha 2 and it includes quite a few improvements over the original release. As to what has been fixed coming from Alpha 1, that list breaks down as follows;
- Plugging headphones in should now shut off speaker volume
- Battery drain issues have been (partially) addressed
- More apps now available in market (thanks to Flemmard)
- Temporarily removed suspect fsck_msdos to fix random folder deletion on media/sdcard.
- At least one type of “sleep of death” (TP won’t wake up) has been fixed
- Wifi should no longer hang in sleep
- Vibrator no longer disappears
- Touchscreen no longer unresponsive after sleep
- cifs support added
- Touchstone should now charge better
- fixed broken links resulting from first version of installer (mount now works)
- pptp vpn now works
- OpenVPN TUN support added
- USB mounting in vold added
- Misc. fixes to ACME Installer (more graceful exits, nonstandard LVM media location handling, etc.)
- fixes to surfaceflinger to improve performance
- upstream cm7 changes added
As you can see from above, a rather nice list. Of course, some that stand out for me include the Wi-Fi where it should no longer hang when in sleep and the headphones. With the Alpha 1, plugging in headphones did not disable the sound coming from the speakers.
Those looking to install Android on their TouchPad can hit the ‘source’ link below where they will find the needed files as well as some directions. And lastly, I installed the Alpha 1 on my TouchPad and can say it is rather nice, sure there are some issues, but overall it was a positive experience. Still, while Alpha 2 seems nice, I may just stick with Alpha 1 and its quirks until a final release is offered up.
