PlayStation Vita US Release Date Announced
Oh boy! Sony has announced the US release date for the PlayStation Vita, and no, it isn’t miraculously launching before the end of the year. However, it is launching a bit earlier than we expected, which is nice, right? Right? Head past the break for all the details.

So, let it be known: the PlayStation Vita will be launching in the United States on February 22nd. Before this official announcement, all we knew was that the PlayStation Vita would launch in regions outside of Japan in early 2012, which lead most (myself included) to believe that it would be tacked with a March or April release date.
But nope! Late February it is. This is definitely exciting news for everyone let down by the announcement that it wouldn’t be launching in the US or Europe before the end of 2011, but February 22nd is still four months away – that’s basically an eternity when it comes to waiting for a new console. What’s a person looking forward to the PS Vita to do?
Well, for one, if you simply can’t wait, you can always import one from Japan when they launch there in December. After all, since the PlayStation Vita will be region free, you’ll be able to play both American and Japanese games on it. Speaking of that, you could even import some of the quirky Japanese games that don’t have a shot at getting published outside of Japan along with your PlayStation Vita.
Of course, doing that will require both a lot of money and a cursory knowledge of the Japanese language to get the most out of your games, so it may be better just to deal with the wait. At least you have an entire holiday season full of game releases to tide you over until the Vita releases in February!
So, who’s planning on picking up a PS Vita when it launches in February 2012? Are you planning on importing one from Japan in December? Head down to the comments section below and sound off!
