BBX Gets Official Announcement At RIM's DevCon Show
Well folks, the eagle has landed for Blackberry and Research in Motion, and they’re showing that they’re not going to let a network outage and associated backlash over compensation for said backlash get the better of them. They’ve just brought out their new mobile operating system, BBX, out at their developer’s conference, complete with a bit of a show over what it can do.

Said to combine the best of both Blackberry and QNX, BBX is set to incorporate “enterprise, NOC, and cloud services” to offer up a whole that seems to offer more services and more types of services than previous Blackberry models. For instance, one major facet of Blackberry service that I had personally found lacking whenever I tried out a Blackberry device, was in gaming. Blackberry was more of a business machine, so it wasn’t exactly surprising that Blackberry kept the fun and games to a minimum, but apparently Blackberry realized that not offering the down time fun wasn’t winning them a whole lot of points in the mobile users’ section. So improvements have been made to show off Blackberry’s gaming capacity, complete with some demos.
Further, BBX offers up a combination of native and HTML5, to allow for both use of previous applications and for the development of future applications. BBX is set to be a “bridge” between the old and the new, to allow Blackberry users to advance forward while still keeping the stuff that previously worked. Eventually, Blackberry looks to have apps under a “write once, deploy everywhere” environment, allowing them to hopefully get a bigger bite of the applications market.
It may have been a tough few months for RIM, losing a lot of market share to Apple and the assorted Android models out there, but DevCon is making one point crystal clear: RIM, and Blackberry, aren’t going out without a fight.
But what do you guys think of this? Like what you see so far with BBX? Or do you think that RIM is just delaying the inevitable? Either way, we want to hear from you, so head on down to the comments section and tell us what you think!
