Apple iPhone 4S Sales Top 4 Million In First Weekend

Apple Offers iPhone 4S Sales & iOS 5 Usage Stats, More Than 4 Million iPhones Sold & More Than 25 Million iOS 5 Users

Coming as an announcement that we sort of expected to see on the Monday following the release of the iPhone 4S and the general availability of iOS 5 and the iCloud — Apple has offered up some official numbers in terms of how many iPhones they have sold and how many users have upgraded to iOS 5 and how many are using the iCloud.

And before we get into the specifics of the numbers, there seems to be a noticeable difference between iOS 5 users and iCloud users. But that aside, lets get into the number that most probably want to read — how many iPhone 4S handsets were sold. According to Apple, they have sold over four million. And just to give the timeframe, that was in just three days. Furthermore, and perhaps a bit more important for Apple;

“iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days,” said Philip Schiller

Moving past the iPhone 4S and into iOS 5 and the iCloud. According to Apple, they now have more than 25 million users on iOS 5 and more than 20 million customers using iCloud. Personally I would have guessed that number to be a bit closer given the push to sign in or sign up for the iCloud during the set-up process that comes once you upgrade to iOS 5. Either way though, 20 million iCloud users sounds like quite a big number.

And lastly, while we have seen the iPhone 4S come available in several markets already, it looks like the next release date will be coming later this month. According to Apple, the iPhone 4S will be available in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland beginning on October 28th.
