Uncharted 3 Won't Be Getting Any Single Player DLC
Believe it or not, people still have a lot of problems with DLC. Yes, in this world of online passes and ridiculous DRMs, DLC is still a sore point with a lot of gamers. Why? Because many developers and publishers sell story content as DLC when many gamers believe that this content should have been on this disc in the first place.

To give you an example, let’s take a look at Mass Effect 2. A lot of the DLC, such as Lair of the Shadow Broker and Overlord, are simply side missions that don’t really add much to the main story. However, one of them – Arrival – deals directly with the events leading into Mass Effect 3, and in fact, Mass Effect 3 will open with Commander Shepard dealing with the repercussions of his actions in Arrival.
For such an integral part of the story, you’d think that BioWare would have included it on the Mass Effect 2 disc. But they didn’t. If you want to experience the events in Arrival and get a good grasp on what happened right before Mass Effect 3 picks up, you’ll have to pay extra. With those kind of questionable decisions, it’s no wonder that people are pissed off with the way DLC is released.
Luckily, fans of the Uncharted series won’t have to worry about that with Uncharted 3. Naughty Dog has revealed that they won’t be making any single player DLC for Uncharted 3, with game director Justin Richmond sitting down with Eurogamer to explain the decision:
There’s a very specific reason. Whenever we sit down and think we should do some single player DLC, someone pitches something and we realize – that’s a five hour level. We’d rather build out another game than we would do episodic content. We’re so small that we can’t afford to have a whole team working on DLC. That’s why we don’t do it, we’d much rather be working on the next game, producing the game quickly and having people play another adventure.
Even though I’m positive that there are many fans out there who would buy every piece of Uncharted 3 DLC that Naughty Dog chose to release, I’m also sure that there are many that appreciate Naughty Dog’s decision not to offer single player Uncharted 3 content as DLC. What side of the spectrum do you fall on? Would you like to see single player DLC for Uncharted 3, or are you happy that Naughty Dog is choosing not to go that route?
