iPhone 4S Siri Not Working Properly All The Time Say Users
Siri is the talk of the town when it comes to iPhone 4S features. Besides tutorials and hands-on previews we’ve all seen that Siri, thanks to its witty personality, is capable to say the darndest things on certain occasions. But what happens when Siri isn’t capable of functioning properly, and I’m not referring to international Siri users that can’t enjoy a full Siri experience that’s available to U.S. customers?

It seems that plenty of iPhone 4S owners have reported Siri problems so far, and that’s certainly not a surprise, not only because Siri is still in beta, but also because it requires an active Internet connection to work properly. Needless to say that whenever a Wi-Fi or carrier network aren’t available the assistant will not work. But is that always the case? Users reported the following message even when a data network was in reach:
Sorry, I am having trouble connecting to the network.
Some users say that on some occasions the app is not responding even after being successfully configured. A discussion thread on Apple’s Support Communities that has plenty of responses indicats that plenty of iPhone 4S users have been affected by the matter.
Apple has not publicly acknowledged the issue, but if there is one, then chances are a subsequent fix will correct such errors. Until that happens there appears to be an easy alternative method to get out of Siri trouble available to any iPhone 4S owner, simply reset your network settings and try to use Siri again, according to one user:
1. Turn off Siri
2. Reset Network Settings (settings… general… reset… reset network settings)
3. Hold down home and sleep buttons until phone does a reset (wait until you see the Apple Logo to let go of buttons)
4. Turned Siri back on… test Siri with just 3G first… (it should work)
5. Join your wifi network and test Siri again… (it should still work)
We’ve seen Apple fail when iOS 5 was officially launched as millions of iDevice owners decided to upgrade at the same time. But Siri is not available on any other iDevice but the iPhone 4S. Sure, Apple announced a million of iPhone 4S sales in the first pre-order day and many more followed, but one would think that Apple’s impressive data center in North Carolina would be capable to deal with all the traffic generated by iPhone 4S users using Siri – assuming that’s where all the voice-based queries are routed to.
If it’s not Apple’s fault then it must be the carriers that can’t handle the back-and-forth traffic generated by Siri who has to be in constant contact with Apple servers to deliver results. But then Siri should work over Wi-Fi right when 3G is down or out of reach, right? Well, what if certain ISPs also have issues supporting the new traffic originating from iPhone 4S voice queries?
That’s all speculation for now, so let us know if you’re also experiencing any Siri problems at this time. But if it’s all data traffic-related, then what will happen when more iPhone 4S handsets get sold or when Siri gets ported on existing iDevices?

New Study Reveals Siri Usage Is Increasing with iPhone 4S Users, But Not Everyone Takes Advantage of All Siri Features

My Siri will not work at all. Constantly sAys it can not find the network. I did the reset that was given In this article still no luck. I believe it’s the lack of RAM on this iPhone. Specially with the 4s. Why would u put a dual core 1gig+ processor with only 500mb of ram. It defeats the speed and with apps open it’s full and I don’t believe Siri has enough space to run properly..
Why would lack of network connectivity have anything to do with ram? It works perfectly fine when it can get a connection.
Dumb article….so slanted. It was a definite apple fail and was obvious.
Same here.. i find it very laggy and takes lot of time.. instead it would be faster if i just type the message or cal by pressing buttons. sometimes it wont even connect :(
its a flop show!
I have tried 2 of the work arounds that I have read about (including the one in this article). Neither have helped. Siri was working fine for me until last night (Sunday) now no matter what she say’s she can’t connect to a network.
My other complaint, which I hope Apple fixes, is that now if I do not have a 3G or Wifi connection I can no longer hold down the home button and use simple voice commands like “call home” or “play Elvis”. Those all worked w/o a network before. Siri needs to keep the old limited function for when she doesn’t have a connection.
I tried resetting the network and phone and all those directions and siri still says ” i can’t connect to the network” this is redic . I’ve only had the phone one day and this is happening…
Siri works great… in the Apple store.
Same issues, sometimes it works… and is awesome, sometimes it won’t. Seems to be network related.
I think Apple’s servers are having trouble keeping up with the load from 4 million new Siri users all asking her to open the pod bay doors. Things will get better as the new Siri frenzy dies down and Apple upgrades their servers to handle the load
The ‘workarounds’ are garbage. The problem is on apples side. When it does not work you cant get through with either 3g or wifi and when you can they both work.
This is an example of one of Apples greatest faults. Keeping silent about their issues and not owning up. Their poo does stink like everyone elses. When there is a problem, let us know. Quite wasting our time scouring the network for other users in the same boat giving each other waste of time ‘workarounds’ cause Apple is mum on the problem
I got my phone friday and when i turen Siri on she worked great!! She worked last night just fine, when i woke up this morning she wasn’t working. I did the suggested fix (but did not turn my phone off) took a few tries and the last try i waited about five mins before turning Siri back on and shes been working fine!! I love Siri, She’s lots of entertainment when playing with her!!
Apple limits Siri to the 4S citing the CPU requirements in the new 4S. That suggests that Siri is native to the device. However, all the problems being reported indicate a problem with Apple’s backbone infrastructure. This suggests that Siri is not a client on the 4S that acts independently of the network. It also suggests that everything asked of Siri is stored by Apple. Regardless of network availability for Siri’s sake, any 4S user should be able to use Siri to act on things local to their device (play song, call home, show me directions to…. Siri, isn’t a localized app. We’re not just talking to Siri, we’re talking to Apple and that information is known to them. Good idea. Poor implementation.
I am having same problame with Siri , It looks like I am having more trouble in morning then any other time. I also try to reboot phone but still same thing. Heck Siri was the reasons I got 4s but I am returning my 4s and keeping iPhone 4.
Haven’t been able to connect to the network since 10PM Monday. ATT, WiFi. Tried resetting per above – no change. I agree with the others — not a phone or network problem, it’s an Apple server problem. Looking forward to it’s resolution.
I ask it to do simple things like text Paris and it dials homeland security, or plays song by Britney spears, or calls other obscure numbers. No network problems, maybe because I’m in Canada? If I am not asking it to play a song or artist, it is completely useless.
Man . Sure glad I saw this on Siri. I was going to go out and get my new 4S because I have a broken face Iphone 3 . Now it looks like I will just wait for I5 to come out next year. THanks for the info
Big disappointment. Slow as molasses and then she gets nothing right. Tells me I’m in 3 different locations if I ask her 3 times.
Mostly she says sorry a lot. What a waste. Should have gotten the 4 for $100 less. I saw her on another phone where it worked perfectly and that was fun. This is not.
