Spotify Music Service Clears 250,000 Paying Subscribers In The United States
Interesting news for those of you who like to get your audio on the Internet and try to do so in a legal fashion that doesn’t break the bank–turns out the online music streaming service Spotify has cleared the quarter million mark in paying subscribers, bringing their ranks up to over 250,000 people paying for the service since its landing in the United States.

Meanwhile the world numbers are even more impressive for Spotify, who counts over two million folks on the entire planet as paying subscribers. And just to put it all in perspective, Spotify’s been offering its services in the United States only since July of this year, meaning they’re getting in around 50,000 to 60,000 subscribers a month, on average, in the US alone.
Spotify comes in three levels–a free service which is backed up by advertising like normal radio would be, the $4.99 a month Spotify Unlimited that takes out the advertising and the $9.99 Spotify Premium service that lets you play files on mobile devices as well as gives you an offline mode. Just which levels the subscribers are paying in at wasn’t clear, though, but even assuming they’re all subscribed at the lowest level, that’s still a pretty substantial amount of revenue for Spotify.
The biggest kick to Spotify’s bottom line likely came from its recent alliances with Facebook. While other services like Rdio and MOG can be found there as well, Spotify got front and center treatment, which lead to fully seven million folks using the service on Facebook at last report.
It’s interesting to see that there’s almost as much competition among streaming music services as there is among streaming video services, and just goes to further prove that the future of entertainment is pretty much strictly home-based. But what about you guys? Where do you go to get your streaming music? Are you one of Spotify’s many customers? What do you like about the service?
