Radio Shack Now Taking Preorders For iPhone 4S, Offers Trade-In Discount

If you’re still wondering what to do with your old iPhone 4 as you, like a whole bunch of other people out there, look to make the upgrade, the folks at Radio Shack would like to have words with you. Turns out that they’re going to be offering a trade-in special too, but it’s not quite the most impressive one we’ve seen lately.

We all know Friday is the big day in terms of getting hands on an iPhone 4S, and chances are you’ve got your preorder in. But if you held off, Radio Shack is set to give you a deal. If you’ve got an iPhone 4, or an iPhone 3GS, you’re guaranteed at least $100 off, with a maximum of up to $200 available in trade depending on things like condition of the device. Interestingly, they’ll also take in other smartphones, so if you happen to be an Android user looking to make a swap to their biggest competitor (or a disgruntled Blackberry user still seething from the recent network outages), you’ll likely be well served here as well.

You’ll have your choice of black or white iPhone 4S models, according to reports, and you can get them on either Verizon or AT&T service plans. You’ll be able to offer up your phone for trade starting tomorrow-when the iPhone 4S comes out, no less) and running until October 31st.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen retailers offering trade-in deals to get their hands on your old gear and your hands on their new gear. Target, Gazelle and eBay have offered up some pretty sharp deals previously, and chances are many have already taken advantage. Still though, $200 could get you a free iPhone 4S out of the deal if you stick to the 16 gig model, though you’d still have to pay the bills on it.
