Rumor: Jak & Daxter HD Collection In The Works

Naughty Dog Game Director Says Jak & Daxter HD Collection Planned For 2012 Release

We’ve been seeing a lot of HD remakes for games from the previous generation popping up lately. Metal Gear Solid is getting an HD collection. A couple Resident Evil games got an HD Remake, too. Hell, even Final Fantasy X is getting an HD remake and I didn’t even know there were people that actually like that game!

But with all of these HD collections coming out, I was surprised to see that one classic PS2 franchise wasn’t getting one: Jak and Daxter. Jak and Daxter seems like it would be the perfect candidate for an HD remake – the visuals were colorful, the gameplay engaging, and the series has legions of fans.

Well it looks like Naughty Dog is already on it, if a new report from Norwegian games site PlayStationSpill is to be believed. According to them, Naughty Dog’s Justin Richmond let the cat out of the bag during an Uncharted 3 press conference in Oslo. He says that the Jak and Daxter HD Collection will release sometime in 2012 and will feature the first three games in the series, giving them sharper visuals and a smoother frame rate.

There’s been no official announcement from Naughty Dog yet, but considering that Justin Richmond is Naughty Dog’s Game Director and not just some temporary programmer, I’d say chances are good that we’ll be seeing a Jak and Daxter HD Collection sometime next year.

What do you think? Would you buy a Jak and Daxter HD Collection for PS3, or would you sit this one out? Were you a fan of Jak and Daxter back in the day, or were you too busy with Ratchet and Clank to care about Jak and Daxter? Post a comment below telling us what you think of Jak and Daxter, and as always, keep it right here at TFTS – we’ll have more information about this Jak and Daxter HD Collection when Naughty Dog decides to share it!
